So you know this is Nancy Pelosi and her dog how? Apparently the woman does
not know the dog very well or trust him to take the treat gently, so she
must hold her hand open. Of course, Diddy's dog Tuck, and even more so his
Tricky Dog partner Yorik, nipped my fingers when I gave them treats. Rather
than training her dog to take things gently, she advised giving the treat
"as if I were feeding a horse".
Sometimes I need to remind Muttley by saying "take it gently", and he
responds appropriately. What about your dogs? Or do they only get
corrections, and not treats?
Last Saturday's "It's Me Or The Dog" there was an episode featuring a dog
named "Princess", showing how the owner abused a choker chain training
collar, which horrified Victoria. But the dog was given only P+ corrections,
and in a very confusing manner, with no R+. So she completely rejected the
idea of corrections and tried using her P+ only methods.

The current episode shows Victoria getting bitten by a 1 year old GSD mix,
Sammy, when she approached him while he had a bone. I think she was going to
use her bite/release technique

which assumes he was playing, and her way of stopping a dog from nipping and
mouthing is to turn her back (R-). Ooops! backfired. Dog was not playing; he
"meant" to do harm. She needs to stick to yappy little ankle nippers.
I think many of the dogs shown on her shows are "the world's smartest dogs"
because they are often teaching her a lesson in dog handling you would think
she knows after 14 years of dog training. And the people chosen for her
shows are "The world's dumbest", or at least they are coached to act that
way.
